Preparing for a new baby is a journey filled with excitement, anticipation, and sometimes, overwhelming tasks. Looking back at my first pregnancy, I remember feeling incredibly organised. I had all the time and energy to plan every detail, meticulously packing my hospital bag with carefully chosen essentials, even tracking down travel-sized products to fit perfectly.
With no other children to care for and my energy back after the first trimester, I felt fully in control, ready to welcome my little one into the world.
But my second pregnancy told a very different story.
Extreme fatigue hit me hard during the second trimester. Balancing full-time work as an early childhood teacher and caring for a toddler left me utterly drained. Packing for my baby was manageable, but when it came to packing for myself, I simply didn’t have the time or energy to prioritise it.
I naively thought I’d pack the basics — a toothbrush and body wash — assuming the second time around would be quicker and simpler. I remember reassuring my mother-in-law at midnight, after my waters broke, that we’d probably be home by 8am.
How wrong I was.
Unexpected complications meant I stayed in the hospital for five days. I found myself without even the most basic comforts — not even a hairbrush. My exhausted husband had to make multiple trips back and forth to gather everything I hadn't packed.
It was stressful.
It was overwhelming.
And it was the moment that planted the first seeds of Alle Ana.
I realised there had to be a better way.
Expectant mums already carry enough — emotionally, physically, mentally. Packing for birth shouldn't be another heavy burden.
That’s why I created Alle Ana: a brand built to take the stress out of hospital prep by offering thoughtfully curated hospital bag essentials, beautifully packed and ready to go.
Through my experiences, I learned some important lessons I hope will help other mums:
💬 5 Things I Wish I Had Known the Second Time Around:
- Make a fresh checklist every time.
Every pregnancy is different — don’t rely on memory. - Don't neglect yourself.
Preparing for baby is important, but so are you. - Ask for help.
Family and friends want to support you — let them. - Expect the unexpected.
Pack flexible essentials in case your hospital stay is longer than planned. - Focus on the essentials, not the extras.
Comfort and care should come first — you’ll thank yourself later.
Every pregnancy journey is different, and it’s okay if things don’t go perfectly according to plan.
What matters most is feeling supported, prepared, and cared for as you step into motherhood.
My hope is that by sharing my story, I can help take a little of that weight off your shoulders — so you can focus on the beautiful moments ahead.
Whether you’re packing your own bag or helping a loved one prepare, remember: you are doing an amazing job.
